• Only pictures submitted within the TSOP private member groups will be considered.

• You must have taken the image yourself and own the rights to be able to enter the image.

• The photographer holds all copyright over their images.

• By submitting you agree to The School of Photography using the images on social media and to promote this and future competitions.

• The School of Photography will judge entries and winners will be contacted via the email we have on file for them.

• If there is no response from a winner after 1 day of being contacted, we will pick a replacement winner.

• Prizes will be issued at the end of the competition.

• All images submitted must be the work of the individual submitting them. Winners may be required to provide the original Raw file of the image for proof of this.

• Images that show an identifiable person. Tom Archer writes - “I like December’s image of the horses. This image has all the ingredients of a stunning capture. The light is incredible, the photo is crisp, punchy and dynamic. I would be proud to have taken this one.”

Mark McGee writes – “I’m going to for the wild horses shot. I think the action captured is first class. I like the telephoto compression and the position of the Shepard and the main horse’s expression. The exposure on the other horses is very good and the colour choice. I thought the slightly over exposed sky was distracting but that’s obviously where the sun was so very hard to expose a high contrast scene like this.”

Trudy Kepke writes – “Wow, what a competition. I've been finding it hard between two of my favourites really which are the Heron photograph by Mel Harrison and the plane photograph by Andrea Martynowski, I've got to choose the plane photograph as my winner. The colours and the clouds, reflections and the lights and capturing the moving propellers. I just think this wasn't an easy shot to get really. Night-time photography is hard at the best of times but a plane with moving propellers and that beautiful sky and reflections. This is the winning photo for me I love it. Well done, Andrea.”

To celebrate all the fantastic work by our members we asked them to create images inspired by our Macro Photography Course and enter them to our latest competition and it’s now time to announce the winners.

We received 100’s of incredible images that reflected the work taught in Oliver Wright’s Macro Photography Course. TSoP and Oliver then narrowed it down to the Top 10 Finalists and added them to a Facebook Gallery. We then asked you, our members, viewers and readers, to show some love to your favourite pictures by liking and commenting!

We loved this response from Miranda to that month’s assignment theme of minimalism. Miranda said “I wanted to create a minimalism portrait. My son helped me out with this assignment. I added a B&W filter in PS and then used a curve adjustment layer for the balloon. ISO100 90mm f/5.6 1/80sec. I really wanted my image to have a "clinical" feeling.”

The Judging

For the judging of this competition, Marc Newton was joined by professional landscape photographer Tom Archer. Tom is currently producing a pro landscape photography course with TSOP which will be released soon. As a reminder and for those that don’t know, the theme of the competition was Christmas. Christmas this year had a big dark COVID-19 cloud hanging over it. With countries in lockdown, laws being made to limit who you can see and just the general downbeat mood of nations, we needed something to pick us up. So we made it our mission to give you that focus by putting on a Christmas photography competition for free.

1st Prize

Here at The School of Photography we will pick what we think is the best Christmas photo and the winner will receive a yearly TSOP membership. Our membership option is the complete package if you want to learn photography properly.

Terms and Conditions

By entering this competition, you are agreeing to the following:

• There is no limit to how many photos you can enter into the competition.

• Only single picture posts with #tsopchristmas2020 on Instagram will be considered – no carousels.

• You must have taken the image yourself and own the rights to be able to enter the image.

• Prizes cannot be exchanged for cash no alternative will be offered.

• The photographer holds all copyright over their images.

• By submitting you agree to The School of Photography using the images on social media and to promote this and future competitions.

• The School of Photography will judge entries and winners will be contacted via the social media site they submitted the photo on.

• If there is no response from a winner after 3 days of being contacted we will pick a replacement winner.

• Prizes will be issued at the end of the competition. Competition ends 31st December. Winners will be announced by the 7th January 2021.

• All images submitted must be the work of the individual submitting them. Winners will be required to provide the original Raw file of the image for proof of this.

• Images that show an identifiable person. It is the responsibility of each entrant that the identifiable person in any image submitted was aware that they were being photographed and the entrant has obtained full permission from all involved (or their parent's/guardian's permission if under 16) for their image to be submitted in the competition and that the identifiable person agree to The School of Photography using the images on social media and to promote this and future competitions.

• The entrant holds full liability and exonerates The School of Photography of any disputes and loss’s that may arise from such disputes relating to copyright and uses of an identifiable person.

• Although we endeavour to provide quality prizes The School of Photography cannot warrant sponsors products/services and you agree not to hold The School of Photography, or its staff liable for any losses costs or liabilities that may arise in association with the prizes or sponsors.
